A Natural Look With Injectables

As a Registered Nurse with 14 years of experience in Aesthetics, I’ve become acutely aware of the fear that many first-time patients come to their consultations with.

In particular, there is a concern that injectables will leave patients looking “fake” or “over-injected” after treatment, rather than natural.

First and foremost, let me assure you that fear is a very real and valid emotion when it comes to receiving any type of medical treatment or procedure. This is why it’s so important to equip yourself with as much knowledge as you can beforehand, and find a provider who is willing to answer any additional questions that you may have.

Now, for those of you that can relate to this fear when it comes to injectables, allow me to share a few things that may help to put your minds at ease!

While Hollywood and mainstream media tend to perpetuate the myth that receiving Botox and other injectables will only lead to a “fake” look, it’s actually very hard to initially become overinflated.

It takes several syringes to look inflated and unnatural. The amount of volume used does not happen in an initial session; therefore, when considering injectable treatments for yourself, it is important to tune out what you see on TV and on the faces of the rich and famous.

As we age, volume is often lost within the muscles, bone density, and natural fat pads in the face.

It is important that this volume is restored in places like the cheeks, before addressing external lines (i.e smile lines). This will help to sustain a more natural look and yield more positive long-term results. Additionally, a healthy skin care regimen in between treatments is essential for a positive outcome with injectables. Keeping your skin clean, hydrated, and protected from the sun should always be a priority, regardless of which additional interventions you choose.

All human beings are different, as is their skin. When it comes to receiving Aesthetic treatments of any kind, there is no “one size fits all” solution. Find an injector that has experience in working with your specific skin care needs. I cannot stress enough the importance of feeling comfortable with your provider; confident in their experience and open to answering all of your questions before treatment. We all have a vision of maintaining perfectly healthy, beautiful skin and tend to want to find the fastest solution to get us there. However when it comes to the use of injectables, slow and steady always wins the race!

Have a beautiful day!
