Three Must-Have Safety Tips

As is true of any medical procedure, there are safety tips that are important to consider when preparing for aesthetic treatment. Here are the top three pieces of safety advice that I would give to anyone who is about to attend an aesthetics appointment.

1. Have a clean bill of health. It is best to be clear of any underlying infections, such as a common cold or the flu, before receiving aesthetic treatment. If you are recovering from any dental work, this is also a reason to postpone your appointment; as certain conditions or infections may hinder your ability to heal properly. You should time any dental work or vaccinations at least three weeks apart from any injectable treatments.

2. Have plenty of masks handy for post-treatment recovery. It is crucial to keep your treatment areas clean, with the help of disposable masks. While we would all like to think that we know and adhere to proper clean mask policy, it's important to remember that once the mask is removed from your face and placed on a surface, it has become contaminated. Be sure to change your mask each time you wear one, for a minimum of 48 hours. Also remember to clean your phone regularly!

3. Know your injector and their facility. Although it is hard to know a healthcare professional prior to attending an appointment with them, there are ways that you can get to know your provider before your see them for treatment. Viewing their website, reading reviews, and calling their office to ask questions, are all ways that you can do your research prior to your initial appointment.

Remember that provider social media accounts are only going to show the success stories. Reading first-hand accounts from other patients is a great way to get to know the perspective provider.

If you have any questions pertaining to the procedure itself, aftercare, or the level of expertise and training of a provider, calling their office can be a great source of information. The more willing they are to provide you with the information you need to feel comfortable, the better chance you have of feeling comfortable once you are in their office for treatment.

Remember, it is your body. It is your treatment. Your health, safety, and comfort level should always take priority!
